Search for Floating Graphic (2000 SR 1)

The "GoTo Graphic" and "Find Graphic" functions in word appear to find only in-line graphics, not the floating ones that can be positioned whereever. How can I find them? <img src=/S/igiveup.gif border=0 alt=igiveup width=31 height=23>

Re: Search for Floating Graphic (2000 SR 1)

    Hi Marty:
So far as I can tell, Find will not find floating graphics. I experimented by searching for [!A-Za-z0-9,.;:'[]"{}^13^g ], which essentially searched for everything in my document except a letter, number, punctuation, & inline graphics. It came up empty. And, as you've found, the BrowseNext feature doesn't have an option for floating graphics. I also experimented with GoTo>Any Object & selected Microsoft Clipart. This came up empty, too.

I'd conclude that a macro would be the only solution, but that would take one of the VBA experts. Sorry.

P.S. Almost forgot. If your floating graphics have captions, you could search for the Caption style, but of course, this won't select the object.

I looked at all the toolbars in the Customize... dialog, and saw nothing devoted to navigating among Shapes. Agree with Phil that macro is the way to go. Guess the question is: what would be the desired functionality?

    Thanks guys for confirming my suspicion. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>
Regarding functionality, I just want to do a "GoTo FloatingGraphic Next", just like <Ctrl G> can find many items in the document. I would want the GoTo to end with the found graphic selected. I am working on a 400+ page document, with just a few graphics. The document is a merging of files from a few people. I just wanted to review the floating graphics to ensure they are properly sized and position, to determine if I can make them in-line graphics, etc. Another use, possibly, is to find pieces of ungrouped graphics that were only partially deleted. I suspect that those could be found the same way, instead of trying to eyeball the document to ensure every last little line, dot, and fill rectangle have been truly deleted.
