    accounts (xp home sr1)

Under my documents and settings folder in explorer I see these accounts - all users, default user, jc (that's the only account I use), and owner. When I view the user accounts window in conrol panel I see jc (administrator) and guest account (guest account is off). Does that mean I can delete the folders for default user, and owner?
What makes me a little nervous is the ntuser.dat file in owners has a date and time of about an hour ago. That file in all users and default user has a date of 1-1-2000. This is my new laptop bought this winter. Any ideas?

My advice is to leave those folders alone.
All Users contains the settings shared by all users (if you were to define more of them).
Default User contains the private settings that will be copied to a new user when you create it.
Windows expects these folders to exist, I don't even know if you're allowed to delete them. I'm not about to try.

JR: you always have to be careful about deleting anything in settings. Can sure mess things up in a hurry, and take for ever to fix .

Yep - definately leave them alone.

And a suggestion - set up a normal (limited) user account for yor everyday use, in lieu of the admin one. And set up a "spare" admin account. The user account is for your normal day to day use, and leaves the admin for installs and other system changes. The extra admin is there in case your usual one develops problems..

OK, they ayes have it. I will leave them alone. And I will take the advice and set up an everyday account and an extra administrator account. Thanks for the advice.
