Dual Boot

Loungers

OK lets take it step by step:

1) Assume that I have a hard drive, with a dual, or multi, boot setup. Say for example Windows 2000 and Linux.
2) Assume that I have a second PC with a single boot drive that has Windows 2000.

OK so if I take the the first hard drive, the multi-boot one, and after configuring the second PC to recognize that hard drive, will the second PC be aware of the Linux partition, if it is booting ONLY from the second PC?

If no, how can I make sure the Linux partition is at least flagged or identified so that people will know its out there?

Thanks and I hope the color coding helped.

Re: Dual Boot

The quick answer: yes, PC #2 should be aware of the Linux partition. The boot record contains that information.

The conundrum: will Linux boot successfully? Hard to say, but probably not. Linux will try to initialize devices that don't exist and you'll likely end up with a plethora of errors. The same holds true for Windows also, but Windows will do its plug and pray thing and could result in a booting machine. The scenario that I'm painting here won't likely occur if the hardware is the same in both machines, and by same I mean identical - but all bets are off if even one or two things are different.

Linux particulars are all over the web, and additional detail could be gleaned from the Other OS's board.
