    Shut down problem

For the past few weeks everytime I shut down my computer, the light to the 3 1/2 floppy comes on and stays on even after the screen says it is now safe to turn off the power to the computer. While booting the computer, or during my usual thing the light stays off. It only comes on while the computer is shutting down and then stays on. I have waited up to an hour for it to go off before turning the power off and it is still on. Any ideas on how I can fix the problem? I really don't want to have to reinstall everything from scratch if it is not necessary. Any Ideas??? Thank you for taking your time to try to help me....John L

    Re: Shut down problem

It could be many things - a floppy drive going south, a faulty internal connection somewhere, or Windows forgetting to shut the light off, for starters. I wouldn't worry about the light so much, the operative question is: is this causing any problems that you know of?

Have you done anything on the inside lately? Most the time that means your cable is pluged in backwards at the Floppy Drive or the Board. Although normally the light will stay on no matter what you do if the cable is backwards. Also could be a bad Floppy Drive. Can you use the Floppy Drive? Also have seen some new Software like Norton that for some reason causes it to stay on. Have you loaded or changed anything lately?

    Re: Shut down problem

My problem is solved. To everyone thanks for the help. Today I ran a scandisk with the repair option and full disk scan checked. Then I restarted the computer and did a defrag. When that was completed, I logged off and powered down. Then I restarted the computer. When I had completed my work, I noticed when I logged off the light to the 3 1/2 inch floppy did not come on. Since doing the scandisk and the defrag, not only do I not have that problem any longer, but also it logs off about 3 times a fast. Must have had a corrputed file or something. Thanks to everyone again...wanted those who were interested how the problem was solved. JohnL
