    WIN XP shutdown (XP, SP1,MS03-003)

Ever since installing MS03-003 security fix to both a desktop with WIN XP Pro and a laptop with XP home, both with SP-1 installed, neither computer will consistently shut down the first time I select "turn off computer" and "turn off". On both computers, the hard drive makes a noise, the screen blinks, and I'm back to normal operation... except for the desktop, where I have a left handed mouse. After the glitch, that mouse is now right handed.

The second shut down try works just fine.

    Any thoughts?

Are you sure you need this fix. Here is what it said on Microsoft about this fix. If you find that you don't need this fix , try removing it and see if your problem goes away. If you want to read more about it. Click Here

Woodys News Letter is all about this new patch. here is what he had to say.

If you had the misfortune to download and install the patch for Microsoft's MS03-013 security bulletin last week, you may have discovered that it, uh, leaves a bit to be desired. Apparently if you're running any of several major anti-virus packages, there's a fair chance that installing the MS03-013 security patch will slow your PC down to a crawl.

So far, the only solution put forward by anyone at Microsoft (that I'm aware of anyway) involves disabling your anti-virus software. HA!

Far better - disable the lousy patch:

    > Click Start|Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs

    > Scroll way down to Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q81493, and click on it

    > Click Remove, then Next.

When the uninstaller is done, click Finish, and Windows XP will re-boot.

Don't install the MS03-013 security patch (Windows Update calls it
