Re: Wrapping Text around a TextBox (Word2002)

Can you post a small document illustrating this problem? - sounds familiar but don't recall for sure.

Depending on how text is set to wrap in relation to the textbox, the indent may appear different for paragraphs that are to the right of the textbox, because these paragraphs are indenting in from the textbox, not from the left side of the page.

Wrapping Text around a TextBox (Word2002)

I've created a graphic down the left side of the page and put it in a textbox (set to "square"). When I set a paragraph to have an indent or first line hanging indent, the setting is ignored if the paragraph is to the right of the textbox. Is there any way to do paragraph formatting on the same line with the textbox? This seems like a bug to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I doubt whether this will help you, but if you increase the left margin of the page until the text box is within the margin, Word will respect the paragraph settings. See attached document

Thank you Hans, good thought. But I need the margins on subsequent pages to be a standard 1 inch. So I've come up with a macro that allows the user to adjust the paragraphs if they need to do that.

Interesting. I took a look at both documents, but the appearance of both was identical in Word 2000. I wonder if one of the compatibility options affects this. I checked a few that didn't make a difference & didn't see anything obvious.

You can still use the larger left margin for the first page if you insert a Continuous Section Break somewhere near the top of the first page. Then go to page 2 (and Section 2), and change your left margin back to 1". I use this technique for my pre-printed letterhead to allow for the much larger top margin on the first page.

Drag the text box to the left to see what the problem is. It appears fine on screen in Word 97 when I first opened the problem file but you can see the problem when the text box is moved over to the right.

I don't have a fix for this and I would get around this by using a table instead of a floating text box. I avoid floating objects as far as possible because of the labour involved in trying to wrestle with these types of issues.

Re: Wrapping Text around a TextBox (Word2002)

Thanks, Andrew. I see the problem now. Word overrides style & paragraph formatting in favor of wrapping options. I want to look more closely, but I can't think of a workaround either.
