    Scanner legacy (Win XP home)

I'm trying to help a friend who (against my and others' advice) installed an old (non Win XP compatible) OpticPro scanner under Win XP and found it would not work. When advised to get an up to date scanner he then installed a new HP scanjet 2300C. Since then he has had error messages (even after deleting the old OpticPro software folder) to the effect that the scanner can't be found. Unfortunately the old OpticPro setup did not seem to include a proper uninstall routine, and Win XP did not even list it for uninstall under the add/remove software. Any ideas about how to get rid of the grip of the old software so that the new scanner will work? Many thanks in anticipation.

What errors are you getting? Did you use the Add Hardware Wizard to install your new scanner?

Many thanks for your response. Error: "Cannot find scanner". Used add hardware wizard to install.
