    Default envelope size (2000 SR-1)

    Can someone please give me a quick heads up on how to change the default envelope size in Word 2000? I always use size "DL" envelopes, and every time I print one I have to manually select the size from the list. I imagine(!) I could bodge it by knocking together some VBA to override the default dialog contents, but I was wondering if there's an easier way?

    All tips appreciated!

    Re: Default envelope size (2000 SR-1)

    Although I couldn't find anything specific to envelope size, there are several posts in this forum about the printer orientation for envelopes. The upshot is that although envelope settings are supposed to be "sticky", they fail to do so for many users.
    Unless somebody else comes up with a better solution, using a short macro to set the envelope size seems to be your best bet. Sorry <img src=/S/sorry.gif border=0 alt=sorry width=15 height=15>.
    Perhaps <post#=54360>post 54360</post#> will give you an idea how to create such a macro. If not, post back.

    Re: Default envelope size (2000 SR-1)

    Thanks for that - the Dialog wdDialogToolsEnvelopesAndLabels appears to have a property called EnvPaperName. Would that be the one to set? I have just tried setting that to "DL", with no success. More generally, is there a list of permissable values for built-in dialog properties anywhere? Haven't been able to find it so far, if there is...

    OK, hold up... The one I need seems to be EnvPaperSize. The displayed list of envelope sizes are numbered from zero; the default seems to be 2 which corresponds to "Size 10". The value I used for "DL" is 14. All is now fine. Final procedure is:

    ===================
    Sub ToolsEnvelopesAndLabels()
    Dim dlg As Dialog
    Set dlg = Dialogs(wdDialogToolsEnvelopesAndLabels)
    dlg.EnvPaperSize = 14
    dlg.Show
    Set dlg = Nothing
    End Sub
    ===================

    Thanks very much for the rapid assistance.

    My Word 2000 seems to hold whatever envelope size I used last, even between sessions. You might try opening normal.dot itself, type & character & then delete it. This makes normal.dot dirty (so it can be saved). Then make the change in the envelopes dialog box & close out of it using the button that says close. Then save normal.dot. See if this makes a difference.

    Re: Default envelope size (2000 SR-1)

    In the interest of completeness, this last suggestion also does seem to work. I did as suggested and saved a 'dirty' copy of normal.dot having made the change in the envelopes dialog, and it now appears to be 'sticky'. So, two solutions for the price of one :-)
