    Windows ME to XP (?)

Has anyone tried to install XP over ME? The program get stalled at the
70 minute area. This is the area where XP is checking my system before installing
    anything. I need some ideas.
I have installed XP on 3 other machines and had no trouble.

Re: Windows ME to XP (?)

I had ME on my machine and installed XP over it fine no problems. That was when XP first come out. MS had a compatibility test somewhere on their site, that would look at your hardware and software to determine if there were any potential trouble makers or drivers that had to be updated before changing to XP. So there probably still is this test available from MS. Check their site and run the test first before trying the upgrade again.

For what it's worth, I've had XP Pro "stall" during the install on several occasions but it always went OK on a second try. However, I've never tried to install on top of ME. Mine have always been clean installs to a fresh hard drive.

I would want to get rid of anything to do with WinMe. Backup and do a clean Install, you will be glad you did.

Re: Windows ME to XP (?)

I finally figured out the problem. I had Norton 2002 still installed on my machine and a program called "Go Back" was still running. First I uninstalled Norton but was still having a few problems and went to the Microsoft XP site. I read on there about "Go Back". I took off "Go Back" and I finished installing without a problem.
