    Help with sharing

Stupid question, but I can't find any other resource that will help me (in language I understand, at least).

My database is on a network (NT server), although only 2 or 3 people use it. When one individual has the database open, another can open it, however, if the first user has opened the database and opened a form, attempts by another user to open it result in the error message "the database has been placed in a state by user x on machine y where it cannot be opened.

Default open is "shared", and no user has specified another open method. All users open as Admin, and are marked as having full privileges on all objects, but I don't understand too much about Access workgroups.

What's happening, and how can I allow 2 people to work on the database at the same time. I'm reluctant to convert to frontend/back end, as I often have to tinker with the front end as well (no professional outfit, this), and don't particularly want to do this on multiple machines. Would creating a workgroup help? How does one anticipate new users (maybe far in the future, when I'm no longer here)?

    Thanks

You also need to check your locking scheme. If you have the locking set to Pessimistic, the first user who opens a bound form will lock all underlying tables until he closes the form.

    Thanks. I'll check we're all sr1'd up.

Charlotte, can I check about the locking. Both the database default locking and the form properties locking are set to No Locks, but the default option does include Record Level locking - is this OK?

    Thanks

That should be OK. However, something is causing a lock. Your user isn't editing the form, is he? That will lock the database as well, since in Access 2000, you can't make design changes with anyone else in the database.

Hmm...Is your form set to allow design changes in all views? If so, change it to Design View Only and see if that makes a difference.

Installing SR1a on the other users computer did the trick. Thanks.

Don't recall seeing it doucmented, but then I never can remember the list of bugs fixed unless I've suffered the bug myself.
