DVD Drive Not detected

I have just put a Liteon 16 x 48 DVD Drive (LTD163) into a PC
OS Windows Millenium edition
The drive is detected but only as a CDROM not a DVD
It will read CD's but not DVD's
Media Player 9 has no DVD options either.
It works OK if I put it into a PC running XP Pro.
I cannot find anything about this issue on MS web site
but help says I need a new driver
Liton Web site does NOT do a driver for a DVD.

Any solutions folks. Please.
Otherwise my little boy will be very upset with me.

It should have come with a CD that installs the Drivers needed ( a DVD Program } Like Power DVD or something. Read This

It has Power DVD on it.

Installed OK and working but NO DVD still.
Indeed DVD does not even turn up on the Media Player menu
so the system is not detecting the DVD.
Device manager reports it as a CDROM not a DVD although it does give the correct model.
Also on BOOT, the Device is detected as CDROM not DVD/CDROM

Could it be a BIOS issue?

The BOIS is an older award Bios from 1999 (a bit pre DVD)
Maybe re-flashing an upgrade will make it detect.

I can get a BIOS upgrade. The most recent is November 2000.

If I put the Device into an XP machine it is correctly detected.

Interesting Results........................................

Flashed Bios (No Problem)
Different Info Read by Bios although Device manager still registers as a CDROM
Re-Installed PowerDVD SE
Ran Windows Media Player 9 (No recognition for DVD)
Despite what the help screen says about how to play DVD's.

So as an experiment I downloaded the Free Version of Real Player.
Worked first time.

(So it's those &^*&)*& Microsoft products again.

Maybe I didn't even need to flash the BIOS!
