no checkboxes visible in advanced options (ie6)

Somehow I've lost the checkboxes to select/deselect options in the advanced tab of ie6. I haven't installed any new programs lately, but I really don't know how long the checkboxes have been missing anyway.
How can I get then back?

Hopefully a temporary glitch. Does it persist after rebooting? If not, I would try to "Repair IE" from Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs.

I guess I should have mentioned that I already have rebooted a few times and did a Repair IE from the control panel. I also tried searching the MSKB and googled with no success. But maybe I'm not wording the problem right.
    Any other ideas?

I'm wondering if a Windows "theme" or some other display setting could render the controls invisible but still functional. Does it affect other programs, like Outlook Express? If you click where a control should be, does anything happen?

    Vicki--

Which OS? And do you know when this happened (recently?) so you might try a system restore whichever OS it is back through ME, and you have your choice of system restore or "scan reg /restore" in the run box in 98 and ME. Maybe as R2 says this will be some temporary glitch. But if it happened recently system restore is a quick and easy possible fix.

One reason I'm asking the OS is that some of the IE repair routes are different depending on the OS-- and you can run System File Checker to repair IE. I'm also wondering if it might involve your Java or Microsoft Virtual Machine and updates but it would make it a little easier to know the operating system. Also if you aren't using Win XP and don't have XP SP1, then downloading IE6SP1 won't hurt and may help.

Is this your personal system, or a company system. If it is a company system, then the IT group would have the capability to disallow you changing any of those options, and that might make the checkbox go away.

Re: no checkboxes visible in advanced options (ie6)

Thanks jscher! You definitely sent me down the right path to figuring this out! While still waiting for a response I quickly determined that the controls were still there, just invisible. (Show Go button in Address bar was easy to test with) When I saw your post, I switched themes and the checkboxes were back. Woohoo!

Since I like my current theme, I was curious which setting was causing the checkboxes to be invisible. Turns out this prepackaged theme sets 3D object text (and the window) to white. This isn't a problem anywhere else that I can find - 3D text is usually on a 3D object. Apparently these checkboxes are 3D text in a window. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>
So I guess my options are
    1. Change the window color
    2. Change the 3D text color
    3. Switch to a different theme when I want to adjust/view my ie settings.

A strange and intriguing solution -- they don't look very 3D to me. Thank you for reporting the answer back.
