Have any example sites? Have you repaired IE?

    Dolphin--

How did you repair it? Did you run System File Checker in your repair steps because I think it could help, particularly the way SFC has evolved in Win XP since your version says you have XPSP1 (with IE6 SP1 included) Also some common pop up blockers can interfere with flash.

See recent thread 1 on this and thread 2 on this. I don't know if 812989 Web Site Content is Not Updated or You Receive an Unrecoverable Error in Internet Explore could apply as could issues in this Webcast:Page Cannot be Displayed in Internet Explorer.

I used repair in Add/Remove programs. OS is WK2. Will try your suggestion as well.

Good luck --SFC may restore files that fix this. And there are around 17 KB's on SFC plus the explanation on the link if you need it/them.

This is a sidebar, and I don't want to veer the thread away from fixing your problem--because web pages that won't show are important and always interesting. I looked at your version and thought you had Win XP and this is just one more illustration of what R2 showed so well on this thread, i.e. that you can't rely on "Help/About" for IE versions and you can't rely on KB164539 How To Determine Which Version of Internet Explorer is Installed either. I imagine putting "winver" or "winver.exe" in the run box, or hitting the Windows +pause break key is reliable but you have to be at the machine or else use Remote Access or Remote Desktop. And I'm not so sure about the XP System Properties Box since Help/About in IE is unreliable.

    SMBP -
Thanks for info. I searched schannel.dll and this is version it shows - 5.00.2195.5284. That is not what Help/About IE shows (similar to the thread you put me onto). You are right, you can't rely on any of what you mentioned. Somewhere during updates and patches something obviously happened. I am thinking of removing all patches one by one going backwards and see what happens. If that doesn't solve the problem then IE6 is going down and I will no longer use it.

SFC.exe will not run on my computer and can't find the file by searching for it.

<P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by DaveA on 29-Apr-03 10:19. )</P>Yes, I have done a repair. Have also downloaded all patches, etc. recommended by Microsoft. One web site is http://www.riversongs.com/. Downloaded Mozilla as well, and this does not happen using it.

Just went to the listed site and it runs scripts and opens several other panes. Do you have a script blocker, pop up and or pop under blocker running? If so that may be your problem. Turn them off and then give it a try.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: IE 6 (6.02800.1106)

Popups can definitely interfere with some pages and they often interfere with 'windows of info' on a site, for example Panicware's Pop Up Stopper won't allow the Lounges' Help, Markup, and other info to come up so I turn it off. I can see a flicker in the notification area icon. Some pages won't load unless I hit either Shift or Ctrl key or both while the page is trying to load. Someone else can probably explain the mechanism. You might want to contact Adshield Support with specific urls that won't load. See if hitting those keys helps at all. This is one possibility but not unlikely at all. Also some of the Mozilla users may know why it never happens with Mozilla but happens with IE6. I think you are being a little hard on IE6, but there are a lot of excellent computer users who switched to Mozilla for similar reasons and love it.

As to SFC.exe, it should run from either the dos prompt or the run box although Microsoft forgets to mention the run box in it's KB's. Put up your dos prompt and type in "sfc /scannow" without the quotes at the prompt. It may well prompt you for the OS CD-ROM and you may have to hit retry several times to keep that progress bar moving, but it is a good tool in Win 2K and many KB's/explanations, tips are linked in recent threads if you do a Lounge search. See Help and Support for its switches and this recent KB222193 may help.

    <img src=/S/starstruck.gif border=0 alt=starstruck width=15 height=15> SMBP - You rock!

Thanks to DaveA as well. You put me on the right track Dave.

Went to Adshield's support page as you suggested. I had an answer within 5 minutes. Now I can have my cake and eat it too. Don't hesitate to use their program. Wish all Software Support was as good as theirs. <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16> I take back what I said about IE6, at least for now.

SFC.exe won't work using the Run window so will try using *dos* as you suggest. Thank you so much for your time.
