    Re: domain host (xp)

    Hello Diane,

It would be useful to know where you are located (roughly). Although your domain could be hosted anywhere in the world, it's more convenient to do business with a company within the same geographical area.

    Re: domain host (xp)

Hans is right, Diane. I'm in Kentucky, USA and use a web host called HostOnce whom I believe is in Australia and UK. It's a real problem getting support. Also, while you're thinking, check <!post=this thread,194718>this thread<!/post> for some more ideas.

    Hosting suggestions?

Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced co. to host my domain?
I know this isn't windows related - but i'm desperate....
I'll explain to whoever replies... nice one.

    Re: Hosting suggestions?

I'm not too far from Al, but I use iPowerWeb for my personal site. Their support is OK, and the pricing is reasonable. Also keep in mind that if you have specific needs for your site, the answer might be different - for example, anything that uses Microsoft's ASP technology will require a Windows-based host, whereas mine is not - it's run on Linux on the back end. If that sounds like hibbery jibbery to you, then it probably doesn't matter what the hosting company uses (Windows or *nix). <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Re: Hosting suggestions?

This is meant for the 2 other people who also me emailed help.
The reason i am looking for another tag holder, (and i've found one now by the way - cheers) is because i wasn't getting any clear answers from my ex-host yk2.net.
Just an add on - i recieved an email which appalled me - they forgot to delete a part of their internal email, which said "i can't deal with this, get rid of her" !!! I find this unprofessional, and downright insulting. I will be taking the matter further.
SOOOO, anyone - don't touch them with a barge pole!!! - this post will probably be removed, although it is well intended. <img src=/S/cop.gif border=0 alt=cop width=15 height=24>

    Re: Hosting suggestions?

I can't see any reason to remove the post....bad customer service needs to be known about, and I agree that it's appalling. Good customer service also deserves mention, on the flip side. Congrats on finding a host that works for you!

    Re: Hosting suggestions?

Before I started hosting my own domains, I used http://dzones.com. They're cheap, reliable and give a boat-load of options. For 6.95 you get everything from space - bandwidth - ssh login - everything... You can see it at they're site.

    Re: Hosting suggestions?

Diane, as Mark said, it helps if other Loungers know about poor service as well as good. For their benefit, could you clarify who your now-former host is? I tried WWW.YK2.NET and that URL gets redirected to a site I'm not sure you're talking about. Could you post the correct URL, please? Like Mark, I'm glad you found someone and good luck with them!

    Re: Hosting suggestions?

my host is parcom.net, reasonably priced and extremely conservative. I use their win2k servers and ASP.
