    Drive Icon Changed

My unusual problem is with one of my hard drive icons in My Computer and Windows Explorer. I have my drive split into
drives C, D, E and F. Recently the icon for my D drive changed from the usual to an icon of a computer and screen.
Since the change I can't open it by a left click and have to use a right click then select open to access it.
The even stranger part is that since it changed I have formatted the C drive and reinstalled Windows again from scratch
and it still shows up as the computer icon. Anyone know what I have done to wreck it ? or how to fix it ?

    Re: Drive Icon Changed

The reason that it did not change when you reformated C: Drive is because the File that causes D: drive to show that Icon is on D: drive partition. How it changed makes no sense. There are Icon Programs that you can use to do this but basicly what they do is put this new Icon and an Auto Run Text file on the Drive Partion that you are changing. I changed mine by adding a new Text File { you will see a little notepad that says Auto Run } pointing to the Icon{ which you will also see} that I wanted to use. If you go to My Computer and double click, then Double click on D: drive it will open up and you should see a Autorun File and somewhere in there you should see that Icon your talking about. {Make sure your view is set to Icon} If you Double click on the little Auto Run Notepad looking thing you should see waht Icon it is pointing to. It will say something like { [autorun]icon=COhd25.ico} The COhd25.ico is the Icon mine is using. Mine is not a standard Icon by the way. Let me know what you see and we will go from there.

    Hi Cowboy:
I'm having a little trouble following your post. You mention an AutoRun text file & refer to being able to see it. Were you intending to attach a file that you didn't?

No, I mean you would see it in Your D: Drive. See box below. Thats my F: Drive. See the Icon and the Auto Run File.

    Re: Drive Icon Changed

Hmmm. I use a different view (the Classic rather than the Active Desktop/View as webpage), but I have no autorun file on any of my drives. Did this come with Win 98 or was it a utility that added it?

    Re: Drive Icon Changed

I added it to change my Drive Icons. It was a tip from Kellys Korner on how to change your Drive Icons. Mine is WinXP but my understanding is that you can change your Drive Icons the same way on Win98. The only reason I asked Shhh to look for that, is just in case it had got added some how by some kind of program. It was just a long shot, but it's the only thing I knew to try and help.

OK this article is for Win98. Make sure you read the whole thing and it should point you in the direction you need to go. You will have to use REGEDIT. Changing Icons Win98
