cannot shift obects off sheet (Excel2000)

    Help.
I have inherited an Excel file.
I want to hide a few dozen columns but get the "cannot shift objects off sheet" message.
Where should I look to fix this?

    appreciate any assistance

Look if there are any objects:

    F5 (goto), special, objects, OK.

Tab through them to see which there are and whether you want to keep them or not.

Re: cannot shift obects off sheet (Excel2000)

Excel says there are no objects found on the sheet.
The problem might be with some cell comments.
I ran a routine to "autosize" a row of cells containing cell comments (they were all over the place).
Still couldn't hide the required columns ("cannot shift objects off sheet" message)
However, if I delete all the comments I can then hide the required column range
Final point: With the cell comments untouched, I could begin hiding columns in the range required, a few at a time, until I eentually get the "cannot shift objects off sheet" message.

    anyone have any ideas??

    zeddy:

I don't see why cell comments should cause this - I have no problem hiding columns which include cell comments. Can you attach the file for perusal?

    Tony,
as you will see from the reply from Steve, comments can cause problems when hiding columns under certain conditions!
