    {USER_FIRSTNAME} {USER_LASTNAME} (2000 SP3)

I've received a few e-mails from "{USER_FIRSTNAME} {USER_LASTNAME}". Obviously this user hasn't set up his e-mail account properly. Hopefully he will do so soon.

I would like to change this gobbledygook into something I understand and can search for later - something like "Joe Bloggs". If I go into the messages properties I can change the display name but it doesn't stick. I've tried changing it and then clicking on Save in the file menu. Can't get it to stick.

    Any ideas <img src=/S/question.gif border=0 alt=question width=15 height=15>

You could forward the message to yourself. If you want something more than just your id in "from" you could go to the extent of setting up an extra profile that you then forward on behalf of. If this is a regular event, you can use a rule to minimise the pain. A fancier option would be to forward to yourself via a dummy free email address set up just for this.

Well it's not a regular event. In fact the few messages I've got from this guy in the last week or so are the first time I've seen this.

Hey - if the spammers can spoof the 'from' - why can't I, on a message I've already read?

I guess this is another 'feature' - makes a certain amount of sense, but not terribly consistant.

Well the immediate problem has been solved with the other 'user' fixing his identity. However if anyone has an idea on how you can change the 'received from' info I would like to hear. It seems that this might offer some other filing opportunities.
