    Word (Office XP)

    Hi,

I'm not abolsutely sure this is a word, driver or OS issue but I figured I'd try here first (presuming it is word) ... I have an Epson EP5700 laser printer and when I print an ordinary document to it characters sometimes get replace (like quotes can becme tilde) and get weird spacing issues (so two words appear as one and ocassionally charcaters overlap.

Anyone heard anything like this before?

    Thanks

    Hello Trish,

Thank you for taking the trouble to investigate problems for other Loungers. I get a "page expired" message when I try to follow the link you posted.

Hello... From past experiences, this is usually a printer driver problem... first I'll find out a couple of things... have you recently installed Windows XP/Office XP? If so, then it is probably a printer driver issue... I checked the Epson site, and there are built-in drivers available in Windows XP; however, I find that the manufacturer's downloadable drivers are usually more dependable... from the following link: <A target="_blank" HREF="http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supAdvice.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0316007329.10521506 07@@@@&BV_EngineID=hadchedeemjhbfdmcfjgckidnk.0

Hi Hans... You're right... and it continues to expire (as Epson notes, it is a dynamic site and hyperlinks/bookmarks are not possible... so here's the directions to the page which I am speaking of... go to their main site, www.epson.com, then click on the Canada/U.S., next click on the Drivers and Downloads (left bottom navigation panel under Drivers and Suppot), in the Printers category, click on laser and select the EPL5700i (I assume that is your printer name)... then follow the link in the middle of the page to Windows XP...
thanx for the heads up Hans... trish

    Re: Word (Office XP)

    Hi Trish

Yes, I recently installed both on a PIII/500 for my wife however I have previously had the exact same issue on Win2K and Office 2K on a different machine which (to my mind at least) implies some kind of driver or office issue.

As you say Epson have not created a driver for this printer yet (presumably because it is considered to be well-supported natively under XP). I'm a UK user anyway and I don't think the 5700 was typically available in the US/Canada.

All of my wife's documents are new ... I think the last time I used Word Perfect was back at the DOS v5.2 level (when computers were *real* computers <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>).

    Thanks for your help anyways <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
