Word in Works Suite

Does anybody know if the version of Word 2000 that comes with Works Suite 2000 is the same fully functional version that is part of Office 2000?

Word in Works Suite 2000 is the exact same version that you would find in Office 2000.

Thanks, Becky. I thought that might be the case.

I wonder, then, whether a lot of people who spend more money buying MS Office really need the full power of Office. Works comes with a stripped down version of Excel and a Database. The spreadsheet has a lot of the functionality of Excel including some of the common financial and statistical functions that would probably meet the needs of many small businesses. With a full version of Word, does the average small business need any more?

Also, there has been some discussion and criticism in this Lounge about the Registration Wizard that comes with Office and requires activation to prevent Office from ceasing to operate after 50 uses. No such Wizard is required (yet) with Works - and it is about 1/3 the price of Office.

In short: why should be average individual or small business choose Office over Works Suite?

Businesses use the full Office because they need the full versions of Excel, and often Access and PowerPoint. Home users usually need just Word - but often do not realise they can save

The worst problem with Works is it's inability to talk to other programs - including Msoft's. If you upgrade from an early version of Works that has a merge going from a Works database to a letter in the wp, it suddenly stops working when the new version uses Word. There are other inconsistencies too. Strange seeing it is the little brother, but it seems to be a case of the left hand not knowing what the right is doing.

Mike: yes, you're right - I should have included the ability to transfer data between Office components as another of the advantages!
