Office 2003 Public Beta (2003 beta)

Any one else trying out the public beta version of Office 2003 and what do you think?

Just installed it, and so far it looks good. Just need to use it for a few days to say for sure.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Office 2003 Public Beta (2003 beta)

    Dave,
I've been playing with it, but not too seriously, for a month or so now. On the good side, I like the new Outlook, and as a Office 97 user I really like the task panes. There are some memory problems that are being addressed with the "Office 2003 Beta 2 Refresh", so don't get too alarmed when just opening Word causes 100 percent cpu usage. One Note is the interesting new app, and it too is getting a "Refresh" before being released. It's definitely a 1.0 release, but it has a lot of possibilities, especially with tablet pc's. (PS the Outlook Business Contact Manager is a mess, and causes a lot of problems, so get everything up and running before you try to install it.)

I'm having quite a bit of fun playing with the 12 cd set, and even more fun following the political hijinks of how and when this thing is going to get released.

Let me know what you think,

    kip

    Does it include the <img src=/w3timages/censored.gif alt=censored border=0> Registration/Activation Wizard.

If it does, should we start a pool on how long before the code to break it shows up on the net? <img src=/S/time.gif border=0 alt=time width=23 height=39>

I'm getting ready to put One Note on, and if I get another hard drive soon, will put on the Beta--although I know I could put it on with XP and take my chances on performance. There is a relatively new public msn group for One Note microsoft.public.onenote and Microsoft has a Chat: Deployment and Setup of Office2003 scheduled for May 15,Thursday @ 10AM to 11AM you can take part in, or review later.

Here I am talking to my self. The issue is that a NEW setting was added in the "Tools, Options and then the Securty tab". One will find a "Junk e-mail prevention, Block external conteent in HTML".
Go to the settings button, and clear the check mark in the box "Block external content in HTML e-mail".

    Dave,

I wouldn't recommend changing this setting. Many junk mails use small 1x1 pixel pictures to record who has read their <img src=/w3timages/censored.gif alt=censored border=0>. I would love to be able to disable mail messages from contacting web sites without my permission in Outlook 2002.

    StuartR ,
I agree with you, but some emails just do not make since without the links.

That's too bad. I was hoping that MS realized that this does not do anything but inconvenience their customers. I was hoping to be able to upgrade.

    Legare,
Did you know that you can buy "Site Licenses" which do NOT require the activation or registration, just lot's of <img src=/S/money.gif border=0 alt=money width=17 height=15>.
    This goes for Windows XP, Office XP and 2003 <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

Do you see any way to view images only in the current message without changing the setting globally? That would be nice...

My understanding is that the code is still there, and that bugs in it have already caused users problems. It is not the registration that I object to (I register all of my software). It is the code that has such potential for bugs that cause mahem.

I think you will find that those who have had "caused users problems", were ones trying to defeat or by pass the code.
