IPF when checking properties/O97 Menu items

In the last several days, Win95 has been kicking out a pair of errors (usually IPFs from Explorer in module <unknown>) if I right-click on anything (desktop item, folder or file in the right pane of an Explore window) and select "Properties" from the context menu. When I clear the error dialogs, Win95 gives me the properties dialog and goes on it's merry way, although sometimes the "Click here to begin" arrow comes gliding across the taskbar after a few iterations.

Coincident with the Explorer errors behavior starting, Office97 apps have started dying with IPFs when I move the mouse pointer to the app menu bar.

The only change I can point to on the machine was an installation of TLC's Reader Rabbit software. I've uninstalled that, but the problems continue. I haven't yet rerun Windows setup, much less done a clean reinstall. Any ideas on what's going on here?

It certainly sounds like a core file has been replaced - MFC (Microsoft Foundation Classes) or something similar. If you don't have a recent backup, doing the reinstall of Windows right on top of itself sounds like the best plan, because it will at least verify all the Windows system files.

It would also be good to run ScanDisk, the usual maintenance procedures, just to rule out those possibilities.
