Bookmarks between Word files (Word 2000 SR-1)

I am working on a multiple-file document. I want to create bookmarks of text in Appendix A and have this text appear in a table in Section 2. I created the bookmarks in Appendix A. I tried to use the field INCLUDETEXT in the table in Section 2 but am just getting an error, file not found.
    Questions:
The bookmarked text in in a style, Heading 2. Does that matter?
Does it matter that I want to put this reference into a table?
While the 2 files are in the same folder, the help menu seems to say that the whole path must be used while creating the field... true or not? These files are on a LAN and are about 10 levels down.

    TIA,
    gg

    Hi gg,

I'm using XP, but have not had a problem with this. When you typed in the file name did you surround it with double quotation marks and did you use the file extensions? eg - "First Document.doc" I haven't had to use a full path when the files are in the same folder.

    Hi gg,

When using INCLUDETEXT fields, leaving out the path works - sometimes. If you move the target document, the link will break. If you move both documents, the links only work if you open the documents the 'right' way. There's been an extensive discussion baout this issue recently, in <post#= 250058>post 250058</post#>. On the whole, I think you're better off using the full path.

There are a couple of points to bear in mind with defining paths:
1 Folder seprataors must be input as double back-slashes '' not as a single back-slash ''
2 If any of the folder names, or the filename have spaces, the whole of the path and fielname must be enclosed in double quotes (ie "C:My DocumentsMy File.doc")

Since you're importing a bookmarked range, your field should end up looking something like:
    {INCLUDETEXT "C:My DocumentsMy File.doc" BkMrk}

It doesn't matter what style the bookmarked text is in - it should be imported anyway. If you want it to take on the style of the paragraph where the text is inserted, you may need to add a * MERGEFORMAT switch to the field. Don't use this, though, if you want to retain the imported text's original appearance.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

Many thanks to the responses. I think that I will experiment with the suggestions at a calmer time (document I am working on is a proposal... don't want the x-references to go wrong last minute).
