    Multiple Task acceptances (Outlook 2002)

Frequently, when a recipient accepts a task I've assigned to him, I receive his acceptance notification multiple times.

This problem is occurring with more than one of my recipients and the notifications I receive vary in number anywhere from six to 17.

The problem occurs most often with tasks I've imported to Outlook from another application (Award) but it does occur also with tasks that originate in Outlook.

A quick shot in the dark here. They're not recurring tasks by any chance?

No, they are not recurring tasks and the multiple acceptances or task completion notices come in all at the same time; the time signature spans one minute.

Oops! I take that back; turns out the tasks are defaulting to "recur once a week" . I'll experiement to see if taking off the recurrance stops the multiple notice.

Another shot in the dark; if you create the new tasks by copying old tasks, you might get the old tasks duplicated and orphaned on the server somehow, with the results you describe. I know that this can happen with Out-of-Office messages, haven't ever seen it with Tasks, but I don't use Delegated Tasks (I'm mean enough to my employees already).

Could the recipients have delegation turned on? Could they have rules running agains tasks?

Re: Multiple Task acceptances (Outlook 2002)

I did suspect that delegations and "permissions to see task others' task lists" might be the source of the multiples, so I removed all delegates and permissions. It didn't help.

The rules against tasks isn't a possibility in my case because the recipients are accepting the tasks and it's their acceptances I'm getting as multiples.

I'm also not creating new tasks from old tasks but I'm not sure that the application I am importing most of the tasks from (Wind2Award) isn't doing that. I'll check with Wind2's tech support.

By the way, I like receiving assigned tasks because accepting them puts them on my task list, so I don't have to remember everything or wreath my monitor in post-its.

I too love this feature and use it heavily. I don't import tasks from another system, though, and I never get these multiples - so on the surface at least, I don't think Outlook is doing this. Pursue the Wind2 end of this question! If they can't help, attach a task imported from that thing for us to look at.

Re: Multiple Task acceptances (Outlook 2002)

Wind2 (Award) tech support is looking into the multiples but I've been experimenting and find the problem is definitely not limited to tasks coming into Outlook from Award. It also happens with tasks that originate in Outlook.

I'm finally figuring out a pattern: the multiples occur with tasks that are forwarded more than twice.

    Examples:
Task comes into Outlook from another application (1st forward), I assign it (2nd forward), the assignee replies (multiple identical acceptances come back to me and also show up in the assignee's sent folder).

I assign a task, the assignee accepts it (1st forward), re-assigns it to a third person (2nd forward), the third person accepts (multiple acceptances).

If anyone has time, please see if you can make it happen as well. I'm thinking it may be a glitch in our Exchange Server (about which I know nothing) but would like to eliminate the possibility that it is an Outlook bug.
