Recalling a sent Message

At one point in time, using OL98, I was able to recall a message sent in haste by selecting 'Actions/Recall This Message' on the menu bar. This is the third time I've had to reinstall OL98 due to HD formating. I don't recall ever downloading an update allowing this feature but now I don't see the "recall this message" option under "Action". Can anyone tell me why this feature is no longer available to me?

Thanks for any light shed on this mystery.

If you open the message in the Sent folder, the Recall command should be in the Actions menu.

Its not there. The closest I come is a "Resend this message" choice.

it should be on the actions menu of an opened message in the sent items box. right before resend...

recall is very iffy and only works semi-reliably (25% of the time) with exchange server accounts. it doesn't work with internet accounts at all. it's better not to send than to attempt a recall.

Try customising the Actions menu.
Open a mail item in the Sent Mail folder.
Right click anywhere on a toolbar and choose Customize.
Click on the Commands tab and then click on Actions in the Category box.
Scroll down the right hand Commands box down until the Recall this Message command is visible.
Click on the Actions menu to display the drop down list.
Drag and drop the Recall this message command to the Actions menu.
Close the customisation box.
The command should now be on the Actions menu when you open an item in the Sent Mail folder.

Re: Recalling a sent Message

I know it 'should' be there, but no longer is. I also know that it will work only if the recipient is using MS Exchange Server and Outlook and that the message must not have been opened. I'm also VERY aware that the best defense is not to send in the first place, but sometimes the [my] hand is quicker than the [my] brain <grin>.

I was just very surprised not to have seen it there and wondering why it wasn't. I've had the same ISP for the last 4yrs and my all my software has been the same. The only change has been the new HD and the need for it to have been reformated. I believe I had used the 'recall' after upgrading to Win98SE.

"Recall" is not in the Customize/Commands/Action drop down list. Thankfully its not a vital part of OL, but it is a bit irritating

weird, it should be in customize.

which mode of outlook are you using? i didn't think the feature was dependant on corp mode, but if you are using IMO that might be the reason. (unless you used the same version before )

Q185397 :

SUMMARY
If you send a message by accident in Microsoft Outlook, you can attempt to recall the message from the recipients using Recall This Message on the Tools menu. The message recall feature allows you to recall, replace, or delete messages you've sent.

Message Recall will not be successful if:
The recipient is not using Outlook.
The recipient is not logged on to the mail service provider.
The message has been moved from the Inbox.
The message has been read. This includes viewing the message with the Preview Pane so that the message is flagged as Read.

NOTE: The Message Recall feature is only available in the Corporate Workgroup option.

Re: Recalling a sent Message

I've checked my installations and Recall is present in Customize | Actions in both Outlook98 and Outlook2000. These are running in Corporate mode and link to Exchange 5.5
Note that the Recall command only appears if an item in the Sent Items folder is fully open before the customisation is attempted.
Otherwise I'm out of suggestions. Sorry
