Missing image names (FP2002 SP-2)

Here's a new mystery to this old codger. Fixed up some new jpg files for a new page -- an article on Rarotonga for my travel section -- and placed them in the images folder under the travel subfolder. Trouble is, they don't show up in FrontPage Folder List. AND they don't show on the unlinked files list, either. All the other images are right there where they've been all along, just the raro*.jpg gone missing. I've re-booted -- twice -- and still no show.

The files all show in explorer, just not in the FrontPage listing for my Hawai'i Island's Magazine Travel.

Did you import them using the Frontpage Import function? How exactly did you place them in the images folder?

In these cases they were converted from the larger jpg files provided by the photographer. I used MS PhotoDraw V2 for that and saved them to the folder of images in the travel subfolder. That's been the technique/procedure I've been using since FP98. Must admit I'm not familiar with FrontPage Import and thanks for the thought.

Bill, try either dragging and dropping into the FP Explorer, or using import - Frontpage needs to know that the files are there in order for them to appear for your use. If that doesn't work....let us know!

A quick way to "force" FP to see all the files in its' directories is to force a refresh.
The first method, while in Folder view, press the F5 or View, Refresh. If that doesn't work, while still in Folder view, go to Tools, Recalculate Hyperlinks. While recalculating hyperlinks FP should examine all its directories and "find" any files that you've brought into FP through non-FP methods.

Mark and Catharine,

Holy Smokes! I tried all of the suggestions in your two posts. The "Import" doesn't seem the appropriate tool for this, somehow. Never asked for a destination so I had the apporpriate sub-folder highlighted. But the dialog box said the source couldn't send the files. Hmmm.

I'm not good at finding things in Knowledge Base but I'll try again. Never can figure out how to phrase the search mechanisms.

Thank you very much for your help.... or, as we say out here in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Mahalo!

Well, I can only think of one way to prove if they are really in the folder you think they are or not:

Open a new page in FP, Insert > Picture > File and type in the full path and image name of where you believe they are.
If they can be inserted, there is something definitely fishy going on.

If not, and as you can see the images in Explorer, copy them to somewhere obvious like c:.
Open a new blank page in FP, Insert > Picture > File then type in the path and image name.
Save the page, when you are shown the "Save Embedded Files" window, change the folder to the one in which you believe they already exist.
If they are there, it should change the Action to overwrite.
If it doesn't, I would suspect the originals aren't there but somewhere else. Run a search for the images and see how many copies you have....

Leif,

AS USUAL, your good suggestion works. Loaded the art on the page using Insert > Picture > File and the filepath to its location as though I could see it in the FP Folder Listing. Pops right up. But the jpg didn't show on the listing. Saving, as you suggested, did place the name of the art on the listing which is a victory I'll live with for now as I need to get this story posted. If you want to see it before the rest of the art gets added.

Now I can be a little more leisurely about what is causing the change in my FrontPage functions!

Mahalo plenty!
