    Suitability of Project (2002)

    Hi Project loungers,
My client is a roofing company with small jobs 3-5 days long. They have about 8 crews working and about 100 jobs in the queue. I am a VBA programmer looking to create a job scheduling system for them. Do you think MS Project would be a good development platform?

... I think MS Project could easily and cheaply be used as the job scheduling system without the need for any development. Why create a new system when an off the shelf product designed to do scheduling can already do it.

What exactly are you inferring to as a development platform and what are you trying to accomplish?
    Regards,

    Gary

Hi Gary - I'm going to write the specs today (hopefully) and post them here (they'll be short). If not today, then next week. Thanks for the encouragement.

Do you intend on using MS Project as a scheduling tool and write code to supplement it or do you think that you will designing something different? I always figure if a tool can meet your requirements without further design, why re-invent the wheel.

In either event, I will be looking for your specs to see what you are trying to do.

    Good Luck.

    Gary

... when you say Job Scheduling System, are you trying to schedule jobs, workers, or perhaps, both?
