Inserting Excel 97 into Other Programs (Excel 97)

We still use Office 97 in my office. A common problem that has always plagued us when importing Excel spreadsheets into other programs, most commonly Powerpoint, Word, and AutoCAD. When we do this to a large spreadsheet there appears to be a physical width limit to what exactly can be imported. For example if I have a 20 column spreadsheet equaling say 18 inches in total width, when I import it into another program it may import only the first 10 columns or roughly 10 inches of physical column width. If I change the fonts to a smaller font nothing happens when if I make the column smaller or larger the more or less columns will be displayed in the other application. Who has run into this behavior before and what did you do to fix it?

    Thanks in advance,
    Greg

Yes, I have seen this behavior. Please remember that the various Office applications have very different purposes. PowerPoint is for making on-screen presentations, Word for printable documents and Excel for creating models with calculations. A Word document has to fit on a page in your printer, so it makes little sense to import an 18 inch wide worksheet. So I guess that Microsoft would say that the limitation is by design.

    Hi Greg,

I've been thru this pain in Word. The only workaround I found is:
    - Copy the cells in Excel
    - Go to Word: Edit | Paste Special | As Bitmap

Doing a Paste Special as other types will result in the same limitations.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

In response to the first reply, I did keep in mind paper size. The unfortunate thing about his particular problem is that this spreadsheet is being inserted into AutoCAD where the paper size is 36 inches by 24 inches.
