Jason Tab (Word 2002)

Can anyone tell me how to permanently get rid of Word's annoying Jason Tab. It sticks itself in as the first tab in a paragraph in a position where you don't want the tab. Sometimes, when you hit enter at the end of a paragraph your next paragraph and the previous one become left indented (fully) rather than just indented at the first line. Why hasn't Microsoft fixed this annoying Jason tab? It's been in Word 97 and later versions.

I don't think it is possible to get rid of the Jason tab permanently - the reference to Friday the 13th was not made for nothing. See http://www.microsystems.com/dearteresa7jasontab.htm. I read conflicting reports on Word 2002 (XP) - some sources claim that Jason has finallly been laid to rest, others that he still pops up

Thank you for the info. It's still alive in version 2002. Perhaps we could write to Mr. Gates and ask him why he hasn't fixed it. Thanks again.

    Re: Jason Tab (Word 2002)

What you are describing is NOT a Jason tab. A Jason tab is a tab that Word puts into numbered paragraphs. In Word 97 and Word 2000, you could not specify the distance on the first line between the number and the text. You Could specify the hanging indent. So Word in it's infinite wisdom, arbitrarily set a tab (Jason tab) on the first line for you (sometimes it was .5, sometimes .25.....it depended on the numbering level). You could go in and move the tab to whatever you wanted AFTER setting up your number specs, in fact some people deleted it. Problem was the bogus Jason tab came back whenever you went back in to the numbering dialog.

What you are describing sounds like some autoformat as you type feature????

Oh yes, love, it is the Jason tab. And it is after we apply a style which includes an outline level. However, I wanted to tell you that I just purchased the Word 2002 for Law Firms by Payne Publishing. Excellent book for reference. There's a section on Jason. It says Jason is dead and that we won't have the problem with 2002. I gave it a test on my home computer and it did work (for a while). If it continues to pop up, you know I will be contacting Payne Publishing (in a heartbeat).
