Getting rid of .lnk for shortcuts

I followed the directions in a magazine for a registery change to force Windows to show all the file extensions. I find that very handy for email messages and the like but I would like to not show the ".lnk" extension on my start menu and for shortcuts in general. Is there any way I can reverse this one change?
