    Command Names (XL97/WinNT4)

I recently found out about Ctrl-Alt-+ and click on an item to find out the name of the command that runs it - in Word - and I have the list of command names you can get from the help - also in Word - but does anyone know how to get the equivalent in Excel?

I checked the help but couldn't see anything that looked like it, and Ctrl-Alt-+ doesn't work in XL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Hans. I seem to be getting good at wanting to do all the things that aren't possible!

However, when I clicked on any of the links on the Excel MVP page I just got a 'Page cannot be displayed' message - it's entirely possible our office IE has been tied down to refuse access to it, but does it do that when you try it?

    Hello Beryl,

I have no problems downloading files from the Excel MVP page - just tested two of them to make sure.

I thought that was probably it. I've just tested them and it seems I can download any .exe file, but none that are .zip.

I don't suppose they are small enough that you could attach them here, are they? I've always been able to download from the lounge ... or maybe if they were unzipped you could email them to me?

    Hi Beryl,

The xlMenuFunDict zip file is over 800 K. Apart from that, I don't think it would be a good idea if I were to attach files from the Excel MVP site here. Perhaps you can PM Pieterse about it.

Fair enough. I think I'll have to leave it for the moment - even if he's willing to send me a copy, 800K is a bit much as an email attachment!

    Thanks for trying, though.

(Edited by HansV to update link to Excel MVP site)

Excel is quite different from Word in this respect. Word exposes the list of "internal" commands; you can overrule an internal command by writing a macro with the same name. Excel doesn't expose this list. The nearest you can get is a list of all menu and toolbar items. You can get this from the Excel MVP site - look for xlMenuFunDict by WMVP Jan Karel Pieterse and CBList by John Green
