    Can't Print from Outlook 2000 (2000 SR-1 running on Windows 2000)

Whenever I try to print an email from Outlook, I get an Internet Explorer Script Error as follows:

"An error has occurred in the script on this page

    Line: 1344
    Char: 1
    Error: Unspecified error
    Code: 0
    URL: res://C:WINNTSystem32shdoclc.dll/preview.dlg

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?"

My Internet Explorer version is 6.0.2800.1106IS.

I searched for shdoclc.dll on my hard drive & had 2 files:

    C:WINNTServicePackFilesi386 - a 325kb file, dated 21/07/2000
    C:WINNTsystem32 - a 521kb file, dated 29/08/2002 and
    C:WINNTsystem32dllcache a 521kb file, dated 29/08/2002.

Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted!

    Many thanks,

    Kevin Duck

Is the problem with a specific email, or mail in general (I assume it relates to html mail)? If it's one email, then there is probably an error in the code in that mail and the fault lies with whoever compiled the code, rather than your system. You could try saving it as plain text first, if that doesn't lose the content you are trying to print.

    Dear Paddy,

The problem WAS with html emails.

If I convert them to plain text, they print OK.

But this problem only started today. Before then, I could print html emails from these contacts.

Any ideas as to how I can get back to normal?

    Many thanks,

The most likely source of faults in the html script is with the sender, so asking them to look into it might be the way to go. making sure that IE is up to date, as well as the latest Java, Flash, etc. in case they are incorporating something you can't support, is the only other thing I can think of. Do you have script debugging enabled in Office? The errors might be ignored if this is disabled.

    Re: Can't Print from Outlook 2000 (2000 SR-1 running on Windows 2000)

The emails from these contacts (including one-word test emails from myself) worked until yesterday. They are all text messages, without any pictures, etc.

    IE is up to date.

    Script debugging is disabled.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

Have you run Windows Update recently or installed anything new?

Shot in the dark: reinstall IE. The HTML rendering engine is part of IE, and perhaps part of that engine somehow became corrupted?

    Dear John,

    Thank you for the reply.

However, IE is not listed in remove programs in Windows 2000. Nor is it listed under Windows components.

Any ideas on how I can remove & then reinstall?

    Many thanks,

    Kevin

    John,

Is it OK to just install over my existing IE?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

Kevin, when you open Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs in Windows 2000, that dialog should have an Icon on the left side, called Add/Remove Windows Components (3rd Icon down on my install), and IE should be in that component group. Reinstallation may require your Installation CDs. If not, and you are on a corporate machine, there may be administrative restrictions, so see your IT folks. Otherwise, if not, and you are on a fast 'net connection, you can get the most recent MS IE here.

Yes. To be cautious, find your Favorites and Links Folders and make a reserve copy of the entire folders and contents. But my last reinstallations haven't lost any settings. (In a corporate environment, but I ... umm ... cheat occasionally.)

I just found an article which told me to run CMD & user/install.

I did this & IE6 appeared in the add/remove programs.

    I removed it & rebooted & now have IE5.5!

Even with CMD, I cannot get IE5.5 to appear in add/remove programs

Slow down, Kev! We are getting away from your problem into another mess! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

You should have tried to reinstall IE 6.n over itself, and I don't know how you got IE 5.5 installed. Restart your machine and see if 5.5 shows up, then remove it. Otherwise installing 6.0 over the top of 5.5 should overwrite it. See also my advice on making a copy of your Favorites and Links.

I now have IE6 installed, but I am still getting the original Outlook problem!

    I'm off to the pub!

Sorry my idea did not help and took so much time and effort. The pub sounds like the best alternative. Unfortunately it's a little early in the day for me in my time zone. <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>
