    Bookmarks (MS Word 2000)

I wonder if someone can help me.

I am creating a word document template to speed up the formatting of the manuals we have to write. The template includes a form that prompts the user to add add the manual title, chapter number and chapter name. This data is then placed into the correct location on the document header and footer using bookmarks. The VBA code used to do this has worked successfully on all other templates.

The problem I have encountered is as follows:

The first page of the chapter has the chapter number and name set in a large font size in the header (section 1), on subsequent pages it is set much smaller in the header (section 2). This works perfectly until I start writing, as soon as the chapter contents stretch to page two (section 2) the perfectly formatted small text of the header in page two switches to the large text of page one (section 1) which is not what I want. This is odd as I have not set the header of page two as "Same as Previous".

If anyone has any ideas about how to solve this I would be very pleased to hear from them.

    Thanks.

It sounds as though you may have a section break at the end of page 1 and a different header for section 2. You can configure section 1 to have a first page that is different to any others using
Format > Page Setup > Layout > Different First Page

Then you can add enough text to force the section to extend to a second page and make sure that the second page header is formatted correctly, then delete the extra text again. Although the page 2 header will no longer be visible it will be correctly stored in the template.

    Hi Stuart:
You can shorten this a little bit. Before you create your Different First Page header, open the header & type in the text that you want in the second & subsequent pages. Then go to File/Page Setup.../Layout tab/Different first page & enter your text in the first page header. Saves a step because you don't have to create a second page & then delete it. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
