Go to Tools/Options/Save/ & make sure that fast saves is NOT checked. Then save your document again. You should never use this option.

Thanks Phil. I did as you suggested, but nothing changed. Can I send you the "blank" document ?

If this is a one-time freak occurrence, I'd copy/paste and forget about it. Sometimes documents get corrupted, and often there's no explanation.

Do make sure it's a "Word document," though, and not Rich Text Format (RTF). RTFs are space-inefficient, particularly with images.

(Edited by Phil Rabichow on 16-May-03 20:19. to add last paragraph)
I concur with Jefferson. However, if you want to attach it to a post in the Lounge, I'll look at it.

Whoops! I just realized it was too big to attach. Sure, send it to me directly & I'll post any results back here.

After turning off FastSave, did you make a small change to the document (add and delete a space) and then save again? I seem to recall the file size only changes after that step. I had a single page document with nothing in but it was still 30mb until I found out about FastSave!

Re: Incredible Word Document Size (Word 2000)

I think it was saved with Fast Saves. I typed in a single character into the document, deleted the character, & saved it. I should have mentioned that in my initial post, but Peter mentioned it in <post#=254970>post 254970</post#>. The document shrunk to 31.5 KB. I then removed all the unused styles that were in the document (you had created numerous ones) & it was further reduced to 29.5 KB. See both of them attached.
    Cheers,
