I suspect the friend's son just copied the PPT file and pasted it to the CD--essentially using his CD as another drive. Or he opened the file in PPT and did a Save As to the CD. I know that CD software makers advertise "Direct CD" stuff, but it simply does not work well for PPT.

The son needs to save the PPT file from his email to his harddrive, open the CD burning software and burn the file to CD.

The upshot here is that the rule with PPT files is never save directly to removable media. This includes floppy disks, zip disks, CD-ROM, network drives (oh, man, I know, what a PITA), etc. Save to the harddrive first, then move to the media in the appropriate manner. (And with a CD-ROM, drag and drop or copy/paste isn't the right manner.)

Echo, thanks for the input. I'll pass this on to my friend and we'll find out exactly what was done, and how it was done.

    Hi Echo
Probably getting totally twisted here, but I'm sure there have been postings about CDs having the Read Only property set when written - so you have to copy the contents back to hard disc because lots of applications 'need' read/write?
Could this be the issue here with PPT?

No, you make a good point here. CDs do indeed set a file's attributes to Read Only. But Robert should be able to read/open a PPT file directly from a CD because PPT doesn't need read/write just for opening and viewing a PPT or PPS file.
