Re: New Free Browser

I had been using SlimBrowser but not anymore. Avant Browser is killer. Man do I love some of the options it has. Thanks Duchess and Bruce. By the way has anyone tried the 8.0 version?

Cowboy,
I've got the 8.0 Beta version installed and so far so good. No apparent problems. Will let all know if I see anything strange.

Re: New Free Browser

I understand that it now can save a shortcut to the desktop. I've attached a picture of my context menu for the old version. Could you post a picture of the one with the new Beta? Actually, a better place to have this discussion is under Other Browsers over <!post=here,254881>here<!/post>
Thanks in advance.

Phil,
How did you come up with that particular menu?
Either I'm having an early senior moment or I have the brain "popup stopper" enabled today. I can't see any context menu close to what you show in your post?

Same here. Don't see all that stuff on the bottom of the list.

New Free Browser

Edited by WyllyWylly to add URL code. See the Quick Guide.[/i]

Have you heard of a new Browser name Avant.

It has a built-in Pop-Up Stopper and It's homepage says it's an upgrade for Internet Explorer

Visit Avant at:

Re: New Free Browser

I'm sorry. What I was really trying to demonstrate is what was unavailable (greyed out), like "Create Shortcut" & "Add to Favorites...". The stuff at the bottom are added by other programs that I have. The SurfSaver stuff, by AskSam, was recommended by Fred Langa in LangaList. It saves web pages & their links in a hierarchical order so you can read them offline.

As it's turned out, I rarely SurfSaver. It takes forever to save the links & creates huge files. What I really wanted it for was to go to sites that have numerous articles on Word, Windows, registry, etc. Turns out those sites are all too big...it can take hours.

Phil,
Comparing items. The only things "greyed out" are paste & foward. All the rest are enabled, like save background as, set as background, copy as background, create shortcut, add to favorites and set as desktop item. No other new items apparent.

That's great. Between your info & Rick's (Tricky), I think I'll take a chance on a Beta version. Thanks.

Re: New Free Browser

Hi Bruce, I read all the articles. Thank you.

I've been chicken about installing the Avant Browser ver. 8.0 Beta 1 Build 626. But after reading all the threads, I'm installing it tonight. I was using two Browsers, IE and Netscape, but when I click on a link or try to send a link or a page Netscape opens when I have IE set as default. I've check every where to find a fix, but no luck. The only fix I can think of is to dump Netscape, I didn't like it that much any way. So as of 10 minutes from now, Netscape is gone.

I'll post back after I get a chance to look at and use Avant and let you know how the Beta version fares on my computer. Wish me luck.
