default folder in Windows Explorer (Home Edition)

Is there any way to change default in Windows Explorer from opening "my documents" to another more frequently used folder?

Which way are you opening Windows Explorer? Remember that there are SEVERAL was in doing this.

I use "Windows key+ e", check it out and see what you get.

Right click the Start Button and the select Explorer.
Or "Start, Programs, Accessories" and it should be listed there.

No Windows Key, I would spend $15 - $20 US and get a new keyboard with a Windows key.

Right click on Windows explorer, then properties. In the target field, modify the data to look like this if you want to open directly to the C: root.
%SystemRoot%explorer.exe /n,/e,c: . If you want to open to a different folder or location, change the c:/ to whatever location you want. Works for me.

    Good tip Dave !!!
That took me to My Computer in Windows Explorer........ where I usually want to go anyway. I'll never understand why MS thinks My Documents is so damn important !!! Or why they don't make it easier to chnage these defaults !!

    Hi, Sam ~

If you have muliple drives both logical or otherwise you equally access frequently, you can use this string in the shortcut target to open the Windows Explorer pane on the left at 'My Computer' with the drives expanded beneath it, but the focus of C: in the right-hand pane:

C:WINDOWSsystem32explorer.exe /n, /e, /select, C:

Doc, TweakUI will allow you to specify the "first icon on the desktop" - My Computer, or My Documents. I suppose they set that as the default because of the way many people use their computers. Microsoft, for all their faults, does perform extensive user testing, and you can't please all the people all the time.

I've gotten into the habit of keeping just about everything in My Documents, and having the Desktop toolbar turned on and crammed all the way to the right of the taskbar gives me quick access to everything - My Computer view, and more.

OK I changed the Windows Explorer that you get to by going through Accessories, but if I right click on Start and Explorer it opens up in a totaly different folder. How do I change that one?

    Hi, Cowboy ~

That is 'Explore', not Explorer. That opens Explorer to peruse the start menu items, hence its placement at the 'start' button.

    Mark,
Already knew about that feature in TweakUI, but thanks for the heads up . If you stash everything in your My Documents folder, it must look like my storage drive. And I'm not even sure a good low level format would clean that puppy up !!!
