    CrossReferencing Mystery? (XP SP2)

    Hi,

I am working on a document which has extensive cross-referencing.

When inserting the cross references, a few at the start work, then they don't work.
The attached scrn. shot shows the xref dialogue box.

So when I click "Insert" nothing happens.
It's as though there may be some corruption in the document as it works for other documents.

How can I solve the problem? Help!!
    Thanks,

    m.q.

If it seems to be for this one document only, it might be corrupted, as you suggest. You can try copying it into a new document. Don't copy the entire document at once, but in parts, testing each time whether you can still insert cross references, and saving the new doc if you succeed. If you fail, close the new document without saving. Create a new document again, and repeat, but now start from the end of the problem document. Hopefully, you'll end up with two documents that together represent the old document except for the corrupt part. You will probably have to retype the corrupt part.

    Hi,

It'd be nice if someone could develop a tool to detect & find these ghastly corruptions.
The manual technique can sometimes be so painstaking that you can go crazy!

We hope MSoft will fix problems like this in future Word versions.

    Thanks HansV,
