    Hyperlink UNC... (XP SP2)

    Hi,

The CTRL+K dialogue box allows inserting of a hyperlink to a file/folder & it can be on another PC/Server on your network.

I remember some months back seeing a registry tweak that forced the pathname to always be output in UNC notation, even if pointing to a local file.

    So instead of d:myfilesletters....
    you would get MyMachineletters_share...

UNC notation instead of the dos-style logical file-path notation.
Does anyone know this registry tweak?

    Thanks,

    m.q.

In the Look In Combo Box toward the top of the dialog box, change that to My Network Places.

From there, just navigate to the server, directory and file, just like you would with a mapped drive.

Select the file and click the OK button and you should get the UNC path.

    That achieves the same result.

    Thanks,
