    /CleanViews problem

<img src=/S/sigh.gif border=0 alt=sigh width=15 height=15>I have developed a few Public Folders and Views in our corporate Exchange 5.5 (+SP4??) installation. The views were set up as "can be used on this folder, available to everyone". So far so good.

Due to some replication problems between my home-server and our public folder server, which I wasn't aware of, I thought that I was having some internal problems with my views in Outlook.
I had heard of the ability to start Outlook with the /CleanViews startup switch, so I gave it a shot, hoping that it would solve all my problems. This was not the case.

Yes, my own local, private views were reset - that was expected. However all the views I had created on our public folders have also been removed. Either I have done something wrong, or the effects in using the /CleanViews switch were not properly documented.

    Any advice??

all views stored in your folders are cleaned and trhis includes public folder views of which you are owner. they all store in a hidden folder in your mailbox.

hmmmm...Does that mean that all users of the public folders are actually accessing the (hidden) contents of my personal mailbox? What happens when folder-owners leave the company and their mailboxes are deleted?
I must admit, I expected the Views to be stored somewhere within the personal folder itself.

Thanks for the help so far, Mary. Now I have to find a suitable method for securing the many views that we have developed..........

they only access your folder once, i think. then they are cached on their machine, in their folders. i'll look in to it more closely to be sure.
