Outlook program error (2000/SP-3)

I've been using Outlook 2000 SP-3 on a Win2k ThinkPad and have had a few "Outlook program error" messages the past few days, but they were tolerable. Most of the time the error message came whenever an e-mail from a random AOL sender arrived and I tried to open it (silly me).

Last night the error message became more frequent and it didn't matter who the sender was. It was late, so I figured it was time to clean out the *.tmp files and do a defrag anyway, but the wretched message was still there. You're probably familiar with it:

Outlook.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.

First question - where's the error log?

So I powered down the laptop thinking a good night's rest would help (?)

I was not looking forward to e-mail this morning, dreading the @#$!%.

Sure enough, same message; however, the usual boatload of e-mail managed to come in.

Only now I didn't even need to try to open an e-mail! I get booted right out of Outlook 2000 once iHateSpam finishes loading.

Here's what I've tried...Detect and repair didn't help even after a cold boot. I even ran an AVG virus check but came up clean.

So what will it take to get Outlook to stop generating these program error messages?

What's the connection between iHateSpam and Outlook? If iHateSpam is a COM Add-in (or some other kind of add-in) try disabling it temporarily to see if that is causing the problem. If iHateSpam is emulating a POP server (so when you check mail, you're actually talking to iHateSpam), try changing your account settings temporarily to talk to your actual mail server. (Beware: if you leave mail on the server, you might receive it all again!)

Is there anything stuck in your Outbox?

Turns out that when iHateSpam was removed, all went well
Now I'm out whatever i paid for it - maybe I'll try to install it again later (?)

If it acts up again, I'll check whatever settings I can change. Thanks for the insights!

They probably have a support e-mail, maybe this problem has a workaround or fix? I wouldn't give up on them until they demonstrate that they can't help. Or they give you your money back.

Good answer... bitten twice (happened during the 30-day trial), I'm a bit gun-shy to reload the application. I won't give up, that's for sure, and will probably get to that once I get annoyed with the 'delete' button for spam.

Thanks for the encouragement
