    Text Shading

OK, here's a stumper... I have a document that contains a table. In the table, there are specific cells that have some sort of shading applied to them, but it's applied only where the text is (not in the entire cell). It is NOT a normal shading (in other words, Borders & Shading won't turn it off), it's not highlighting, it's not field shading. My colleague and I can't figure it out. Any ideas?

Is there a comment in there? I'd check the style in there for something funky too... very strange. When you copy and paste the text into a new document (not including the paragraph mark) is the shading still there?

It sounds like the shading was applied to the text instead of the entire cell.

Select the cell and go to Format/Borders and Shading. Change "Apply to" from Cell to Text and then select "None".

I've checked for comments and checked the style (which is normal and there's nothing quirky in that style). If there is text in the cell, I can copy/paste the text to a new doc. and there's not shading, but if I copy/paste the cell, it carries over. We are quickly running out of ideas - someone had to have put it there, but how?
