    Track Changes (Word 2002)

Is there any way to exclude a footer from the track changes feature. In particular, there is a repeating footer on each page of a long document which contains information such as page number, document version number, etc. It is not necessary to show on each page that this information is changed. Can track changes be "on" but exclude this part of the document?

No, as far as I know it's a document-wide setting.

If the document version information is being updated as a result of the document being saved in a document management system, the only way to avoid the updates to the footer information being marked as tracked changes is to educate users that track changes must be turned off when the document is closed/saved. It also may be possible to enforce that setting via a macro that runs when the document closes.
