disk cleanup tools (xp pro sr1)

I am trying to find information on disk cleanup tool. If I check delete the compressed old files, what am I actually deleting, ie., any file that I have not used in the last 50 days? I checked by mistake and hit enter and left the room. When I came back it was still deleting compressed files. I cancelled it out, but now I wonder if I have hosed my system?
I know better than to do this, but i'm brain dead.
Any ideas or links would help.

Ah, it doesn't delete compressed files - it compresses files that haven't been used in a certain time window. And, it takes forever for it to complete when you select that option. I don't think you've hosed anything by getting out of it, but the only way to know for sure is to use it for a few days and see if it behaves.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I don't understand what it was doing. Can I uncompress the files to undo what i've done or would it cause more harm.

All things being equal, I'd leave them alone - compression is native to XP (using NTFS), so it shouldn't affect performance. I doubt that you'll ever notice a difference!
