One possibility is to use the ADVANCE field:

Type X

Select Insert | Field

Select Advance, then click behind the word ADVANCE in the text box

Type l6 u2

Click OK

Use Insert | Symbol or the Character Map accessory to insert the overline character

The easiest thing to do is to use the built in Equation Editor to create the mean symbol. This has the advantage of being point and click and not needing VBA and translating correctly if you convert to HTML.
