    Rogue characters after screen refresh

I asked this question some time ago but never got a satisfactory answer. Perhaps some new member may be able to help. I am running Win98SE and if I have a document open in Word 2000 and the screensaver kicks in, moving the mouse to reactivate the screen results in a figure 7 being inserted where the cursor last was. Any ideas?

Sounds like Video Driver or Card problems to me. I remember your question from before and looked everywhere for such a situation, and found nothing. Did you try updaing your Video Drivers or a different Video Card?

Here's a question for you, does it happen with all screen savers or just one in particular? Try the blank screen saver and see what happens on that one.

Although it's a bit of a nuisance I did not feel it warranted such steps.

This happens in Word, Excel, Wordpad and Notepad.

Although it's a bit of a nuisance I did not think it justified such action.

I do not use screensavers as such, just a blank screen.

I'm sorry but I don't understand how a screensaver kicks in if you don't use one.

The "blank screen" is also a screensaver, it just doesn't do anything wonderful and fancy.

Re: Rogue characters after screen refresh

I would at least try one of the other default savers to see if the behavior has to do with the screen blanking, or Windows' screensaver routines. It's the best way to narrow down the problem - if it persists with, say, "Mystify" enabled, then it's related to the applications - if not, it's the saver itself.

Is the blank Sreensaver the same as the None Option?

No - it's actually a screensaver, the file I believe is called blank.scr.

I do not have a screensaver as such. I use the Power Management Properties and select Turn Off Monitor after 5 mins and Turn Off Hard Disk after 10 mins.

You said "the screensaver kicks in, moving the mouse to reactivate the screen results in a figure 7 being inserted where the cursor last was" above, so we were ALL working with SCREEN Saver problems.

Now that we know you are using the hibernation and/or Power saving routine, try making some changes to the setting and see if anything is different.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
