    Dantz Retrospect

FYI, the following is a quote from a posting in one of the Dantz forums. It describes differences 'tween Retrospect 6.0 and 6.5:

By itself, it would seem that if included in the Pro version, "Bootable CD client disaster recovery" would justify upgrading from earlier versions.
    -----------------
Retrospect 6.5 introduces the following new features and add-ons:

    - Up to 8 simultaneous executions in Single Server and Multi Server
    - Barcode reader support for loaders
    - Multiple tape drive support in loaders
    - Ability to bind specific tapes to backup sets
    - Brick level restores of Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes
    - Built in Exchange and SQL add-ons
    - Bootable CD client disaster recovery
    - and more...

This release was far from just a set of fixes. We've incorporated many new features that our customers have been requesting.

    Re: Dantz Retrospect

Appreciate the information Howard. Some of the differences are in server and/or tape environments. Funny you should post this because Dantz emailed me today to upgrade my 'braindead' Express to 6.5--for $50. Here are some links to add to the Dantz info in the lounge:

    It's less expensive from Provantage.

Retrospect Pro is better than the other products I've read about.

At worst, a full version of Pro is about $77 from Provantage.

My concern remains Dantz's failure to release any fixes for 6.0 prior to including the fixes in the next fubctionally changed release 6.5, for which one has to pay. Even MSFT is not that heavy-handed yet.

That's a good point I had not thought about until you brought it up--most software needs fixes and it's fair to expect an ongoing exchange between the company, its in-house developers/code writers and customers to provide those kind of ongoing updates--and thanks for showing me the best price at a resource I didn't know about.
