What size are wireless packets? (XP with SP1)

My Wireless Network Connection Status window displays the count of packets sent and received. How can I convert this to bits or bytes, because I want to get an idea of my ADSL connection's speed. Alternatively, is there some utility I can use instead, because I only want to see if my ISP is living up to his advertisements?

To which in the UK you could add http://www.adslguide.org/tools/speedtest.asp. In spite of it being an ADSL site it works fine for me on blueyonder cable, and on a 2 Mbps leased line at work..
