Downloading Via Modem (IE6)

Is it possible to have the modem connection disconnect once a download process has been completed? I'm using XP Pro as my Oper Sys.

Thanks,
John

Hi John

I don't know if you can disconnect on completion of download with any settings within IE6....but.....
You can do what you want using download accelerators such as Download Accelerator Plus and Fresh Download.

Have a Great day!!!

As Ken noted I don't believe it's possible with IE - you can set it up to prompt for disconnect when the connection isn't in use, but not automatically. Sadly I don't have a modem so I can't test the theory.

Hi Mark & John:
Even with DSL, you can disconnect. Tools/Internet Options/Connections tab/Settings/Advanced/check the box for "Disconnect when idle for XX minutes". On the same tab is a place to "Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed", but I never had the guts to use this.

Hi, John ~

I would like to second Ken's suggestion of Fresh Download. It is 100% free, no charges, no banners in the software (which eat up your bandwidth), no spyware, very fast, very simple interface and easy to use and the great feature of disconnecting your modem immediately once your download(s) are finished (which is usually when I am asleep.)
