On a colleague's machine even the simplest formula only works if semicolons are used where I use commas.

For example put 2 in A1. In B2 put =IF(A1=2,3,999) then press enter. On my machine this works fine. On my colleague's machine it says the formula contains an error. On her machine =IF(A1=2;3;999) works fine. If she saves the workbook with the semicolon-containing formula, on the network, and I open it on my machine the formula appears with commas instead of semicolons, and works ok.

We thought it would be something in Tools/Options but we cannot see any differences in the settings on the two machines.

    Any ideas anyone?

Control panel, regional settings, list separator is the one you're after.

Semicolon is the separator used in many other countries, particularly European countries. Go to the Control Panel and double click on Regional Options. If the local is set for some other country, you can change it to English (United States), or you can just change the separator character on the other tabs.
