    Footer on Last Page Only Or One Page Only (XP/Word 2002 (10.2627.2625))

    We have an individual that wants to have the path and filename code inserted in a footer but have it print on one page only. Attempting to put in section breaks to isolate the page isn't working for him and he's quite frustrated with the process. I recall in earlier versions someone posted a field code that knew not to print until it got to the last page. Is there a way to use that code (and would someone graciously post it again) and tell it to appear on the specific page that he chooses?

    You can use an IF field to put something like this in your document footer

    { IF { PAGE } = { NUMPAGES } { FILENAME p "" }

    This will print the file name and path on the last page of the document only

    (Use Control-F9 or Insert Field to insert the { } characters - not the keyboard.

    Is there a way to program it so that it prints on the last page of a section? I tried substituting SECTIONPAGES for NUMPAGES but had no luck. I'm working on other combinations but so far, no go. <img src=/S/brickwall.gif border=0 alt=brickwall width=25 height=15>

    Nothing obvious, but we can think about it.
    How many sections in the document?
    Which section is the footer needed in?
    I don't suppose the sections after this one have a fixed number of pages?

    Unfortunately, those factors vary from document to document. The one that he was working on this morning had only 3 sections and that was only because we tried to rope off the page he wanted the document info to appear on with section breaks, one before and after the page. It was indicated that the document was created originally in Word but I think somewhere it suffered conversion trauma because it didn't want to recognize all the sections when we went into Header/Footer. It was exasperating. Hard-typing in the info would have been a quick fix but that isn't what he wants to do long term.

    Since you only want the information on one page, why not just put { Filename p } in a text box or frame on the last page of the section where you want it?
    Don't bother trying to put it in the footer, just move it to overlap the footer.

    {IF {SECTIONPAGES} = {PAGE} {FILENAME p}}

    ... works only if you reset the page numbering to 1 at the beginning of each section.

    Another solution is to just put the {FILENAME} field wherever the user wants to see it and quit trying to automate it in the footer. A text box that is positioned at the bottom margin of the page can simulate a footer. Add one to the end of each section. Store the textbox as an AutoText to make it easier to pop in wherever you want.

    You two take the fun out of making things hard! <img src=/S/blackteeth.gif border=0 alt=blackteeth width=20 height=20> Thanks for the solution. The one snag is that he has to update the fieldcode but I set it to do so on print. Hopefully that won't cause problems. Thanks muchly.
